In 2008, I was just finishing my first year of design school. And someone told me to put everything I made over the year on a table and stand next to it. Some professors, most of whom I had never met before, would give me their opinions of it. I started to get really nervous, because for a long time, no one said anything about it. It was just completely silent. And then one of the professors started to say, “Your work gives me a feeling of joy.”

Joy? But how did that come from the thing on the table next to me? I couldn’t stop thinking about it and it took me 10 years to understand the relationship between the physical world and the mysterious (神奇的)emotion called “joy.” Later I discovered that they were connected and the physical world could be a powerful resource in creating happier and healthier lives. And I found that when psychologists (心理学家)used the word “joy”,they meant it was an experience of positive emotion lasting for a short time — one that made us smile and laugh. That feeling was one of the ways in which scientists measured joy. Joy was about good feelings right now.

Where did joy come from? I started asking everyone I knew, and even people I just met on the street, about the things that brought them joy. \months, I noticed that there were certain things that started to come up again and again. They were things like cherry blossoms, bubbles, hot air balloons, fireworks and so on. We didn’t even need to know what they werefor, and we felt like we were celebrating things, too. These things weren’t joyful for just a few people. They were joyful for everyone. And seeing them all together gave me this hopeful feeling that couldn’t be described.

I noticed something as I walked around and I began noticing little moments of joy everywhere I went. ( )1. What was the relationship between most of the professors and the writer? A. They were friends. B.
