Step1: Lead-in
T: National Day is coming soon. We will have a
seven-day holiday. Besides National Day, what other holiday or festival do you know?

T: We are going to listen to a dialogue between a
salesgirl and a boy named Joe. He wants to buy a Father’s Day gift? Listen to the tape for the first time and try to get the answer to the question.

Students practice the dialogue in pairs. Ask some pairs to act out the dialogue in front of
the class.
Step3: Practice
1. Competition (team-work)
Ask students try to think of some useful expressions
that are often used when shopping is done. The team present the most expressions is the winner.
2. Present the following expressions. customer: (asking the price) --- How much is it？
--- How much are these things？ --- What‘s the price of it？
---That’s too expensive. Do you have any cheaper
one. \\Would you give me some discount? How about ---
salesgirl:
I can give you …off. That comes to …. It’s now or
never.
